Redox Electrochemistry of Mn(II) via Carbon Black Nanoparticle Impacts

The field of impact electrochemistry, namely, electrochemical processes occurring at nanoparticles during collisions with a substrate electrode, has recently been applied to the recovery commercially important metals. In this study, reduction and oxidation solution Mn(II) were observed on carbon black particles nanoimpacts, onset potentials in good agreement voltammetry. formation Mn(0) MnO2 was confirmed via scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray (SEM/EDX) analysis photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. Coverages between 0.2 0.6 monolayer equivalents obtained for reductive deposition Mn, whereas anodic MnO2, more complex picture found due pathway from MnO2.
